Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.), 66, was admitted to an intensive care unit<\/a> (ICU) at a New Jersey hospital and was said to be dealing with “an extended recovery that could require physical rehabilitation,\u201d according to a Tuesday press release from his office.<\/p>\n

Norcross was transferred to Cooper University Health Care on April 7 “following a medical incident that necessitated his hospitalization” in Raleigh, N.C., Eric Kupersmith, Cooper University Health Care chief physician executive, said in the press release<\/a>. “Upon his arrival at Cooper, he was diagnosed with a gallbladder infection known as cholangitis that had progressed to sepsis.\u201d <\/p>\n

Kupersmith said that a gallstone was removed from Norcross, with the doctor adding later that Norcross was \u201cresponding well to treatment, but faces an extended recovery that could require physical rehabilitation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Norcross\u2019s office said earlier this month<\/a> he had been hospitalized but was stable in the wake of an \u201cemergency medical event.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCongressman Donald Norcross was traveling over the weekend and suffered an emergency medical event likely related to his gallbladder,\u201d the office said in an April 7 statement. \u201cHe was admitted to UNC Rex Hospital in North Carolina on Sunday and is in stable condition, where he is receiving exceptional medical treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement also said the New Jersey Democrat had been \u201cin good spirits and wants to thank\u201d members of the hospital\u2019s staff because of \u201call their work on his behalf during his stay.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the Congressman is medically cleared to fly, he will be transferred back home to Cooper University Health Care in the coming days to complete his recovery,\u201d the April 7 statement continued.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
