The head of the FBI\u2019s New York field office, who had been critical of Trump administration firings at the bureau, says he was forced out of his role.<\/p>\n
James Dennehy, the assistant director in charge of the FBI\u2019s New York field office, said in a note to staff that he was told to put in his retirement papers without any explanation. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been told many times in my life, \u2018When you find yourself in a hole, sometimes it\u2019s best to quit digging.\u2019 Screw that,\u201d Dennehy wrote Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will never stop defending this joint. I\u2019ll just do it willingly and proudly from outside the wire.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dennehy had previously told staff to \u201cdig in\u201d in the\u00a0wake of a purge<\/a>\u00a0of FBI leaders both in headquarters and field offices. Shortly thereafter, the Justice Department demanded the FBI hand over a list of the names of agents who worked on the 1,500 investigations that led to charges for people who stormed the Capitol.<\/p>\n
